Measuring the motion control properties of footwear:
Assessment of footwear and foot function should be harmonized
The scientific literature on footwear has grown substantially in recent years and our understanding of materials, construction and shoe technology is now quite extensive, as evidenced by the recent publication of The Science of Footwear. At the end of the day, this knowledge should help to produce boots and shoes that work harmoniously with feet. Often, however, a gap still remains between foot and footwear research. One way to narrow this gap is to make the findings of shoe tests publicly available. Studies of shod foot function can then report the footwear characteristics with their other results and the findings can be interpreted in the best context. To get more information on this approach to footwear testing you might read, Measuring the motion control properties of footwear: Assessment of footwear and foot function should be harmonized (Chapter 20 of The Science of Footwear).
